Westbank First Nation Welcome
Chief Chris Derickson, Westbank First Nation
Dear NICHC Delegates,
On behalf of Westbank First Nation, I welcome you to the Central Okanagan and Westbank traditional territory for the National Indigenous Cannabis and Hemp Conference. We acknowledge those of you who have travelled from near and far to attend, including the Northwest Territories, the East Coast, the West Coast, Central Canada, and the Prairies.
Cannabis and Hemp afford significant opportunities for Indigenous communities in the areas of health care, harm reduction, jobs, and economic growth. Social issues arising must be concurrently addressed and managed responsibly. Over the next two days, the conference will present leading Indigenous experts from medical, legal, and business communities who can help navigate the science, the cultivation, and distribution knowledge necessary for success. Our hope is this event will help you network, share information, ask questions, and return home with a better understanding of cannabis and hemp.
Respectfully,

Conference Chair Welcome
Howard Silver, Conference Chair, NICHC
Welcome Chiefs, Council Members, Medical and Ec. Dev. Managers,
Interest in Cannabis and Hemp continues to raise much debate amongst Indigenous communities from coast to coast to coast. Our National Indigenous Cannabis and Hemp Conference, which began early last year, was designed to assist Nations and Communities dealing with the opportunities cannabis and hemp can present.
Establishing community policy will be the focus in Kelowna with Indigenous legal, medical, government, and business experts on hand who have already made inroads into harm reduction, grow ops, retail, medical clinics, training, and distribution. Networking and workshop opportunities reinforce the need for you and your council to be a part of the conference.
We are expanding both sponsorship and trade show components to enhance your learning levels and industry contacts.
The National Indigenous Cannabis & Hemp Conference continues to be an invaluable resource for those Nations and Communities in the process of gaining valuable information on Cannabis and Hemp. With exciting health and economic development opportunities ahead, we invite you to join us this fall in Kelowna where we will answer many of your questions on how to benefit in the ever changing cannabis and hemp markets. For further information or registration, please call (403) 294-0977 or nichc.ca.
Sincerely yours,
Howard Silver
